e67128dd0a nvs: add config to ignore "encrypted" flag of nvs partitions 
This is to allow having pre IDF v4.3 behavior where "encrypted"
flag was not being checked for NVS partitions.

It is recommended to enable this new config only if you have
production devices where NVS partition was being set with "encrypted"
flag by mistake.

Please see commit aca9ec28b3 which
introduced check to not allow NVS partitions with "encrypted" flag set.

5806e57773 esp_timer: Added esp_timer_get_period/expiry_time APIs 
Added the following new APIs to the esp_timer module:
- esp_timer_get_period(): Returns the period of a timer in microseconds.
- esp_timer_get_expiry_time(): Returns the timeout value of a one-shot timer in microseconds.

994038e0e9 esp_http_server: Check for failure in stopping http server 
In some cases, sending the shutdown signal may fail, which causes `httpd_stop` to wait indefinitely.
This PR adds a check to prevent this infinite loop.

aa2ca7dd94 LEDC: improved support for ESP32-C3 and refactored divisor calculation 
As ESP32C3 does not have support for REF_TICK source clock, it is now not
possible to select it anymore.
Auto cfg clock has been improved for all boards.

8376276b14 FreeRTOS: Fix xStreamBufferReset function always crashing 
This function resets the spinlock given as a parameter after taking it
(when entering the critical section). This then results in a panic once
it tries to exit the same critical section.

16677b0d3c global: make periph enable/disable APIs private 
peripheral enable/disable usually should be managed by driver itself,
so make it as espressif private APIs, not recommended for user to use it
in application code.
However, if user want to re-write the driver or ports to other platform,
this is still possible by including the header in this way:
"esp_private/peripheral_ctrl.h"

5962a7e931 wear_levelling: move tests from unit-test-app to a component test app 
* Migrate test cases from IDF test runner to Unity fixture.
* Tighten heap checks in the test case a bit.
* Run formatting script on test_wl.c
* NEW: Define 4 test configurations, including configs with 512 byte
  sector size. Previously these configs weren't tested in CI.
* NEW: The test app only runs for ESP32 and ESP32-C3 (one chip for
  each architecture). The component is pretty high level so we don't
  need to test it for each chip. This reduces the load on CI.

2a885ae694 secure_boot_v2: fix issue in pre-flashed digest (manual) workflow 
This commit fixes issue where empty (unprogrammed) digest slot out of
multiple supported (e.g. 3 for ESP32-C3) could cause issue in
workflow enablement process.

Notes:

1. This issue was applicable for chips supporting "secure-boot-v2"
scheme with multiple digests slots
2. This issue was affecting only manual workflow, where digest of
public was pre-flashed in efuse
3. Change in "flash_encrypt.c" is only for additional safety purpose

189899180f usb: Change API and refactor tests 
This commit updates the USB Host Library API in the following wasy:
- usb_host_client_handle_t and usb_device_handle_t made into struct pointers
  to generate compiler warnings about conflicting handle types
- usb_host_client_config_t changed to future proof API for Synchronous Clients
- Added usb_host_lib_unblock()
- Added usb_host_device_addr_list_fill()
- Return of usb_host_device_free_all() updated to indicate whether there
  are still devices yet to be freed.
- Blockg APIs are now marked explicitly
- Fixed a bug in usb_host_transfer_submit_control() when checking the bEndpointAddress
  of a control transfer.

Tests are also refactored to move some common macros into shared headers

6a12e28333 usb: Fix USBH handling of disconnections 
This commit fixes how the USBH handling of a sudden device disconnection,
more specifically handling of device gone.
- Previously the USBH would only halt, flush, and dequeue the device's
default EP, then send a device gone event to the Host Library layer.
- Now the USBH will also halt and flush all non-default EPs, allowing
all of the URBs to be dequeud.
- Some internal object members are now protected by a mutex instead of
a spinlock.

0c758c8557 usb: Fix how the HCD handles sudden disconnection 
This commit fixes how the USB Host HCD handles sudden disconnections.

Bugs:
- HW channels remain active when the port suddenly disconnects, and
previously the channel would be disabled by setting the disabled bit,
then waiting for a disabled interrupt. However, ISOC channels do not
generate the disabled interrupt when the port is invalid, thus leading
to tasks getting indefinitely blocked in hcd_pipe_command().

Fix:
On a sudden disconnection, forcibly treat all channels as halted even
if their HCCHAR.ChEna bit is still set. We do a soft reset after a port
error anyways, so the channels will eventually be reset.

8babb3bca6 freertos: Fix SMP round robin scheduling 
The previous SMP freertos round robin would skip over tasks when
time slicing. This commit implements a Best Effort Round Robin
where selected tasks are put to the back of the list, thus
makes the time slicing more fair.

- Documentation has been updated accordingly.
- Tidy up vTaskSwitchContext() to match v10.4.3 more

5e7df077d6 Increased LAN8720 ETH-PHY reset assertion time (IDFGH-6018) 
Increase reset assertion time from 100µs (as specified minimum in the datasheet) to 150µs.
Some specimen of the LAN8720 need the reset signal asserted longer than 100µs to initialise properly. Otherwise they are in a zombie state where they are establishing and loosing an Ethernet link once in a seconds interval.

884a6b17cc spi_flash: No CPU release time for an erase operation when OS is not running 
During the early start, the virtual eFuse mode can call erase operations when OS is not yet running.

Possible workaround: CONFIG_SPI_FLASH_YIELD_DURING_ERASE=n

Fixed for the legacy flash driver as well.

fb22c1f182 fatfs: Implementation of disk_status nad disk_initialize for SD/MMC card 
FATFS provides a disk status and disk initialize callback which were not
implemented. Implementation has very low impact on SD/MMC speed and
fixes issues, when trying to open file when SD card was removed from
slot and not deinited.

If disk_status returns STA_NOINIT, it will always continue with
disk_initialize. If that returns 0, it will continue like everything is
working normally. So there has to be the same check as in disk_status.
Return of disk_initialize is always checked like this for STA_NOINIT or
STA_PROTECT so if command fails, we return the STA_NOINIT.

dffb92e45f System/Security: wrong check of the Memprot feature in esp_restart()/panic_restart() 
esp_restart()/panic_restart() never resets the Digital system (so far required only by the Memprot feature) as there's a typo in the corresponding #define:
it checks CONFIG_ESP_SYSTEM_CONFIG_MEMPROT_FEATURE instead of CONFIG_ESP_SYSTEM_MEMPROT_FEATURE.
Issue fixed.

4846222102 freertos: update freertos folder structure to match upstream 
The following changes have been made:
1. All FreeRTOS kernel source files are now placed in the
   freertos/FreeRTOS-Kernel folder to match with the upstream folder structure.
2. All kernel include files are now placed in freertos/FreeRTOS-Kernel/include.
3. All port files are now placed in freertos/FreeRTOS-Kernel/portable.
4. All additions/customizations are placed in freertos/esp_additions.
5. All other miscellaneous files (README, License files etc.) are moved to
   freertos/FreeRTOS-Kernel folder to match with the upstream.
6. Updated esp-cryptoauthlib to latest commit to resolve FreeRTOS
   include dependencies.

f45d25d380 efuse_table_gen: Fixes wrong joining fields with omitted names 
The issue is related to the non-sequential way of description when
such fields going together sequential.

Related to esp32h2 chip for eFuses: MAC_FACTORY and MAC_EXT.
The issue is in wrong indexes of MAC_EXT.
MAC_EXT got indexes like it is joined to MAC_FACTORY.

ac0cbebb89 ringbuf: Fix bug where comparision between a signed and unsigned operand resulted in incorrect free size for no-split/allow-split buffers 
This commit fixes a bug in no-split and allow-split ring buffers free buffer size calculation.
When the free size available in the buffers less than the size of one item header,
the function prvGetCurMaxSizeNoSplit/AllowSplit() incorrectly returned the maxItemSize instead of 0.
This is due to the comparision between a negative and a positive value
where both operands are treated as unsigned during the comparision operation,
thereby treating the negative operand as a large integer.

Also added new unit tests to test buffer-full and almost-full conditions
where this scenario is likely to be hit.

1222f6dd3a esp_ringbuf: Fix assertion xQueueGenericSend queue.c:818 
The release of the semaphore indicating the item was successfully sent must be the last semaphore released.  The receiver may be in another task and may delete the Ringbuffer (such as with a return code across tasks design pattern) if they are through with the Ringbuffer.

The function xRingbufferSendAcquire followed by xRingbufferSendComplete had the semaphores released in the proper order and that same pattern should have been used in xRingbufferSend and xRingbufferSendFromISR.  This commit fixes this order.

Issue (IDFGH-6030) #7716 describes the problem in more detail.

7b91343ca7 lwip: Fix ping socket create to allow for fd=0 
0 is a valid socket description, so should be accepted after we create a
socket. In IDF, though, it's just a theoretical issue, as customers have
to configure:
* FD_SETSIZE = CONFIG_LWIP_MAX_SOCKETS (from makefiles)
* CONFIG_VFS_SUPPORT_IO = n (from menuconfig)

(this configuration is currently broken, but if we adjust the IDF here
and there we could reproduce the issue)

265038bea3 esp_system: fix high level interrupt handler not linked for GNU Make 
In 4972605, high-level interrupt handler hook was renamed from
ld_include_highint_hdl to ld_include_panic_highint_hdl. However the
change wasn't applied in GNU Make based build system. As a result,
the default interrupt handler was linked and features which depended
on the high-level interrupt didn't work.

d6f2fa4bab freertos: Remove critical nested macros 
This commit removes the following critical nested macros as follows:

- portENTER_CRITICAL_NESTED()
- portEXIT_CRITICAL_NESTED()

They are replaced with portSET_INTERRUPT_MASK_FROM_ISR() and
portCLEAR_INTERRUPT_MASK_FROM_ISR() which are the proper FreeRTOS interfaces.

Created a portmacro_deprecated.h for each port to contain deprecated API
that were originally from portmacro.h

359a3d396d freertos: Add memory hooks for static IDLE and Timer tasks 
This commit adds the following hook functions to obtain memory
for the IDLE and Timer Daemon tasks when configSUPPORT_STATIC_ALLOCATION
is enabled:

- vApplicationGetIdleTaskMemory()
- vApplicationGetTimerTaskMemory()

Currently, both functions simply allocate from the same memory as
regular tasks (i.e., internal memory for both the stack and TCB)

61820f5b30 cpu_start: let individual core clear its interrupt matrix 
There was race condition where interrupt entries set by APP cpu core
could have been cleared during PRO cpu startup.

This was observed while setting up "cache access error" interrupt in
SMP mode for ESP32-S3.

This fix allows to NOT modify or clear any entries set by other core
(APP or PRO) and thus avoiding any race conditions during startup code.

Fix for packets containing unexpected domains, such as openthread.thread.home.arpa.
If we find this packet we set the name entry as invalid, but continue with parsing as the packet might contain related queries for us.

c331c85318 mspi: make cpu clock source switch safe 
For some of the MSPI high frequency setting (e.g. 80M DDR mode Flash or PSRAM), timing tuning is required.
Certain delays will be added to the MSPI RX direction. When system clock switches down, the delays should be
cleared. When system clock switches up, the delays should be restored.

8048677b4c Xtensa: Branch and jump intructions referencing a relative label have been replaced 
As branches/jumps on Xtensa have a maximum range for the destination, it is
unsafe to refer to a label to another compilation unit in a branch/jump instruction.
The labels have been replaced by absolute addresses.

52050ed883 freertos: added doxygen section tags for conditional documentation 
Added DOC_EXCLUDE_SECTION section tag to conditionally remove sections
from FreeRTOS source files which we don't want in IDF API docs.
Added DOC_SINGLE_GROUP section tag to enable a flat document for
FreeRTOS and removing groups.
With these conditional tags, we can upstream FreeRTOS files without
affecting the upstream documentation.

d93b53b9e5 newlib: provide missing atomic libcalls 
Provide emulated atomic load & store libcalls for u8, u16 & u32 integer
types. This is required when building with Clang as llvm does not lower
these operations to native load / stores, where as gcc does.

Provide `sync_lock_test_and_set` atomic implementations for all
supported integer types.

16a91399f1 psram: put opiram_psram and spiram_psram in internal ram 
External memory is accessed via SPI0. When modifying the SPI0 registers,
should put the code in internal RAM. Otherwise when there is an ongoing
SPI0 transaction, CPU changes the SPI0 registers. This is dangerous.
Besides, modifying SPI0 registers may lead external memory to an
unstable state. Therefore putting these code in internal RAM is
necessary.

7ff9332243 rtc: fix mspi timing issue when self-calibrate ocode 
When doing OCode self-calibration in rtc_init.c, it will change the
system clock from PLL to XTAL, which is in a lower frequency, and MSPI
timing tuning is not needed. Therefore we should modify the timing
configurations accordingly, and set it back after the calibration.

This is a temporary fix

5344de34c3 System/Memprot: fixed voltage glitching detection logic 
When the application is being debugged it should check the call result (esp_cpu_in_ocd_debug_mode())
is not given volt.glitch attack - so the result is triple-checked by ESP_FAULT_ASSERT macro. In case
the check fails, the system is reset immediately

ROM code doesn't allow loader stub to be executed in case secure boot in

3c5e7b89ab spi_flash: extern spi_flash_chip_generic_timeout 
spi_flash_generic_timeout is currently defined in the header file,
which makes it a common symbol between translation units where this
header file is included. It is also defined in
spi_flash_chip_generic.c.

Add an explicit `extern` to prevent multiple definition errors.

b5606f5e81 esp_system: make the abort operation compatible with clang 
Clang warns that the original code wouldn't have any effect:

    warning: indirection of non-volatile null pointer will be deleted,
             not trap [-Wnull-dereference]
    note: consider using __builtin_trap() or qualifying pointer
          with 'volatile'

__builtin_trap translates to 'break 1, 15' instruction on Xtensa,
which might be okay in this case. However to absolutely certainly not
break anything for GCC builds, add 'volatile' instead.

1e2b1238c6 cbor: add a workaround for -ffreestanding being passed to clang 
Toolchain CMake files for clang currently pass -ffreestanding option
to prevent clang from picking the wrong copy of stdint.h. This is a
temporary hack until we fix clang distributions to not include the
GCC version of stdint.h. This hack, however, results in setting
__STDC_HOSTED__=0, which is being checked by cbor header files,
making some required functions unavailable as a result.
Undefine __STDC_HOSTED__ as a workaround. This flag is only passed
when compiling cbor itself.

ccda990ce5 newlib: set errno in the explicitly provided reent structure 
Since these functions receive the pointer to reent structure, they
should set errno in it rather than using thread-local errno.

This didn't cause practical issues because console functions in IDF
are only called from threads, and in that case 'r' is a pointer to
the thread-local structure, so &errno is the same thing as
&__errno_r(r). Still, fixing this for consistency.

5da66d1d39 newlib: implement _fstat_r stub for console 
When CONFIG_VFS_SUPPORT_IO is disabled, _read_r and _write_r
implementations in syscalls.c are used to provide console I/O via
esp_rom_uart_tx_one_char/esp_rom_uart_rx_one_char.

When newlib opens a (FILE*) stream, it calls fstat to check if the
underlying file is character-oriented. In this case, it configures the
stream to use line buffering. Otherwise (or if fstat fails) the stream
is opened as block buffered.

Since fstat wasn't provided, stdin/stdout/stderr streams got opened in
block buffered mode. For console, we need line buffered output so that
the stream buffer is flushed each time a complete line (ending with
'\n') is sent to stdout or stderr.

Fix by implementing _fstat_r stub, setting st->st_mdoe=S_IFCHR.

Level 4 interrupt has a chance of preempting a window overflow or underflow exception.
Therefore it is not possible to use standard context save functions,

plus some of the special registers.
Then clear WindowStart, allowing the C handler to execute without spilling the old windows.

1c57dbcb3c esp_http_client: Fixed handling of EAGAIN return 
For https connection `ESP_TLS_ERR_SSL_WANT_READ` of esp_transport_read was getting treated as error.
Treated this as a timeout to fix connection abort issue!

Also handled http connection EAGAIN with `errno == EAGAIN` check.

3b40d77584 freertos: move esp_compiler.h include from FreeRTOS.h 
Moved the inclusion of esp_compiler.h from FreeRTOS.h to
the app specific FreeRTOSConfig.h where the unlikely()
macro is used. This change is in alignment with the upstream
FreeRTOS.h file.

14fe6dcaaf HAL: Fix Force U32 macros for C++ typeof() 
When using the Force U32 macros in C++, the peripheral structs will not
have copy constructors due to them being volatile. Thus, doing temp_reg = reg
via typeof() will not work and cause a "ambiguous overload of operator=" error.

This commit fixes the macros by reading the reg into a uint32_t value first.

46d54990d8 freertos: remove xSemaphoreAltTake/Give macros from upstream files 
xSemaphoreAltTake and xSemaphoreAltGive are Espressif defined macros and
are not being used. The respective definitions, xQueueAltGenericReceive
and xQueueAltGenericSend are also not part of current FreeRTOS source
(v10.4.3). Hence, removed xSemaphoreAltTake and xSemaphoreAltGive
definitions to align with upstream code.

e0d29d4ada esp_system: create ld template to abstract few common settings 
PMS aware chips require prefetch padding size for instruction fetch, or
some memory alignment considerations. These settings are now exposed
through kconfig options (hidden) and used through common ld template.
This shall help to add and manage future chips support easily for
these considerations.

soc/ll: workaround compiler bug that generate 8/16 bits inst instead of 32 bits one 
update all struct headers to be more "standardized":

- bit fields are properly wrapped with struct
- bitwidth sum should be 32 within same struct, so that it's correctly padded with reserved bits
- bit field should be uint32_t
- typedef volatile struct xxx{} yyy;: xxx must exists. refer: https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/pull/3199

63280dfec0 aes/sha: fixed driver reseting the wrong GDMA channel 
Driver was using the channel ID from tx when reseting rx.
But since rx and tx is not necessarily from the same pair this could lead
to the driver reseting the wrong DMA channel.

d9fdb9dc3f esp_rom: remove "newlib.h" header 
We found conflict in "sizeof(time_t)" due to inclusion of this
header over toolchain specific "newlib.h".

Moreover, there are no users for this header and implementation
for API is also not available in ROM. Hence removing it.

4a6cc1d2a4 vfs/fatfs: fix failed tests by increasing timeout 
Default 30s timeout is too low for a case when SD card formatting is triggered,
which could lead to tests failure. Timeout of tests is now set to 60s.

accbaee57c Add USB Host Library 
This commit adds the preliminary version of the USB Host Library. This commit contains:

- USBH (USB Host Driver)
- Hub Driver that only supports a single device and device enumeration
- USB Host Library (asychronous API)
- Test cases for USB Host Library asychronous API

The following changes were made to the existing HCD:
- Removed HCD_PIPE_STATE_INVALID. Pipes are no longer invalidated
- Changed pipe commands to halt, flush, and clear. Pipes need to be manually
  halted, flush, and cleared.
- Halting and flushing a pipe will execute the pipe callback if it causes a
  HCD_PIPE_EVENT_URB_DONE event

b56c9aafe4 partition_table: warn if data partition offset is not 4kB aligned 
If a partition offset is not aligned to 4 kB, erase operations will
fail, even if they are aligned to 4 kB relative to the partition
start. This is because the underlying esp_flash_erase_range function
only works when the address is aligned to 4 kB.

Not making this an error for now, since applications might be using
read-only non-4kB aligned partitions, which still work fine.
Will change this behavior in IDF 5.0, requiring 4 kB alignment for all
partitions.

9b654db032 partition_table: Fix case when a few similar to otadata partitions in the table 
It was when in the partition table there is a partition with type="data" and suptype=""(empty),
in this case type=1, suptype=0. It is similar to otadata partition.

This commit fixes it, now it will handle it as type=1, suptype=6 (ESP_PARTITION_SUBTYPE_DATA_UNDEFINED).

9f17f586f4 esp_netif: Set default netif with lwip_netif 
Make use of lwip_netif pointer for setting the default interface in lwip,
since the  is a generic pointer used in I/O functions wheras the former is always the  type.
More importantly the netif_handle could be set to another context ptr
used in I/O functions, as as for the SLIP netif.

This change fixes the issue of incorrect settings of a default interface
if any SLIP netif is involved.

e41e67f2f1 uart: Add missing critical section wrappers around rx_buffered_len 
The missing barriers caused uart_get_buffered_data_len() to (very rarely)
return a garbage value. When used in MicroPython, though, this caused
select() to return and a subsequent read() to stall indefinitely until
a char was actually available.

931da79804 1.Update the esp32 bt lib.The last update is still the old one,so update it again. 
2.The controller may miss the sleep time caculated before. So it will stuck
  in the loop to get the deep sleep HW flag. Then the watchdog issue happen.

d1f4b74812 The controller may miss the sleep time caculated before. So it will stuck

dbeb4bdb84 uart: support alloc driver object in SRAM 
If CONFIG_UART_ISR_IN_IRAM is on, which means user hope the uart
interrupt can still be serviced even when cache is diabled (e.g.
writing to flash). In that case, the driver should make sure to
put the all related objects into SRAM, avoid putting them in the PSRAM.

779e7400b0 uart: uart_set_pin function will now use IOMUX whenever possible 
By using IOMUX instead of GPIO Matrix for UART, it is now possible
on ESP32 boards to use the UART as a wake up source even if it is
not used as a console.
For other boards where this issue was not present, using IOMUX has
the advantage to be faster than using GPIO matrix, so a highest
baudrate can be used

2b52f7f696 mspi: fix no buffer reset before each psram read issue 
In psram timing tuning driver, we rely on psram read and write functions
defined in `spi_timing_config.c`. If we don't do buffer reset (clear to
0), the function may untouch the buffer, which will keep last time value
(since we reuse the buffer). Therefore, if the first read is expected,
but next few reads didn't modify the buffer content, we will still see
the expected data.

These functions relies on `esp_rom_opiflash_exec_cmd`.

Integrated Linux-based rom implementation into log
and NVS component.

Added brief host tests for ROM to ensure basic

23eb723daf adc: make adc single api only build pm lock on s2 
Since ADC single read API only uses polling mode, we don't need to add
pm lock in it.
