884a6b17cc spi_flash: No CPU release time for an erase operation when OS is not running 
During the early start, the virtual eFuse mode can call erase operations when OS is not yet running.

Possible workaround: CONFIG_SPI_FLASH_YIELD_DURING_ERASE=n

Fixed for the legacy flash driver as well.

fb22c1f182 fatfs: Implementation of disk_status nad disk_initialize for SD/MMC card 
FATFS provides a disk status and disk initialize callback which were not
implemented. Implementation has very low impact on SD/MMC speed and
fixes issues, when trying to open file when SD card was removed from
slot and not deinited.

If disk_status returns STA_NOINIT, it will always continue with
disk_initialize. If that returns 0, it will continue like everything is
working normally. So there has to be the same check as in disk_status.
Return of disk_initialize is always checked like this for STA_NOINIT or
STA_PROTECT so if command fails, we return the STA_NOINIT.

if (stat & STA_NOINIT) return FR_NOT_READY;
if (stat & STA_PROTECT) return FR_WRITE_PROTECTED;

dffb92e45f System/Security: wrong check of the Memprot feature in esp_restart()/panic_restart() 
esp_restart()/panic_restart() never resets the Digital system (so far required only by the Memprot feature) as there's a typo in the corresponding #define:
it checks CONFIG_ESP_SYSTEM_CONFIG_MEMPROT_FEATURE instead of CONFIG_ESP_SYSTEM_MEMPROT_FEATURE.
Issue fixed.

4846222102 freertos: update freertos folder structure to match upstream 
The following changes have been made:
1. All FreeRTOS kernel source files are now placed in the
   freertos/FreeRTOS-Kernel folder to match with the upstream folder structure.
2. All kernel include files are now placed in freertos/FreeRTOS-Kernel/include.
3. All port files are now placed in freertos/FreeRTOS-Kernel/portable.
4. All additions/customizations are placed in freertos/esp_additions.
5. All other miscellaneous files (README, License files etc.) are moved to
   freertos/FreeRTOS-Kernel folder to match with the upstream.
6. Updated esp-cryptoauthlib to latest commit to resolve FreeRTOS
   include dependencies.

ac0cbebb89 ringbuf: Fix bug where comparision between a signed and unsigned operand resulted in incorrect free size for no-split/allow-split buffers 
This commit fixes a bug in no-split and allow-split ring buffers free buffer size calculation.
When the free size available in the buffers less than the size of one item header,
the function prvGetCurMaxSizeNoSplit/AllowSplit() incorrectly returned the maxItemSize instead of 0.
This is due to the comparision between a negative and a positive value
where both operands are treated as unsigned during the comparision operation,
thereby treating the negative operand as a large integer.

Also added new unit tests to test buffer-full and almost-full conditions
where this scenario is likely to be hit.

73303e5de0 VFS: select function's timeout is now POSIX compliant 
`select` function will now round up the timeout passed as a parameter (if any).
It  makes it POSIX compliant.

1222f6dd3a esp_ringbuf: Fix assertion xQueueGenericSend queue.c:818 
The release of the semaphore indicating the item was successfully sent must be the last semaphore released.  The receiver may be in another task and may delete the Ringbuffer (such as with a return code across tasks design pattern) if they are through with the Ringbuffer.

The function xRingbufferSendAcquire followed by xRingbufferSendComplete had the semaphores released in the proper order and that same pattern should have been used in xRingbufferSend and xRingbufferSendFromISR.  This commit fixes this order.

Issue (IDFGH-6030) #7716 describes the problem in more detail.

7b91343ca7 lwip: Fix ping socket create to allow for fd=0 
0 is a valid socket description, so should be accepted after we create a
socket. In IDF, though, it's just a theoretical issue, as customers have
to configure:
* FD_SETSIZE = CONFIG_LWIP_MAX_SOCKETS (from makefiles)
* CONFIG_VFS_SUPPORT_IO = n (from menuconfig)

(this configuration is currently broken, but if we adjust the IDF here
and there we could reproduce the issue)

d6f2fa4bab freertos: Remove critical nested macros 
This commit removes the following critical nested macros as follows:

- portENTER_CRITICAL_NESTED()
- portEXIT_CRITICAL_NESTED()

They are replaced with portSET_INTERRUPT_MASK_FROM_ISR() and
portCLEAR_INTERRUPT_MASK_FROM_ISR() which are the proper FreeRTOS interfaces.

Created a portmacro_deprecated.h for each port to contain deprecated API
that were originally from portmacro.h

c331c85318 mspi: make cpu clock source switch safe 
For some of the MSPI high frequency setting (e.g. 80M DDR mode Flash or PSRAM), timing tuning is required.
Certain delays will be added to the MSPI RX direction. When system clock switches down, the delays should be
cleared. When system clock switches up, the delays should be restored.

d93b53b9e5 newlib: provide missing atomic libcalls 
Provide emulated atomic load & store libcalls for u8, u16 & u32 integer
types. This is required when building with Clang as llvm does not lower
these operations to native load / stores, where as gcc does.

Provide `sync_lock_test_and_set` atomic implementations for all
supported integer types.

336de29413 Examples/pppos_client: Fix manual parsing to accept unexpected lines 
Regression from a90817cda0 that caused
parsing exit in case of an unexpected result found (line handler
reported ESP_FAIL). Prevously if any error found in the line handler we
just posted an unexpected event, but continued with parsing. Fixed by
allowing for further parsing.

06c0b8a5d0 cmake: don't search for toolchain files in component directory 
This feature was added when we thought that target components might be
added out of IDF tree. That never became possible, and with recent
changes in IDF architecture it is unlikely that this feature will be
necessary any time soon. Remove it, simplifying the code.

14e600801e cmake: allow selection of clang based toolchain 
This is an experimental feature intended at the moment for ESP-IDF
developers only.

If IDF_TOOLCHAIN=clang environment variable or CMake variable is set,
use toolchain-clang-esp32xx.cmake instead of toolchain-esp32xx.cmake.

These changes aren't sufficient to actually build any IDF project with
clang; subsequent commits add a few workarounds required to do this.

Toolchain files are added for esp32 and esp32s2, which are the targets
supported in our llvm-project fork at the moment.

soc/ll: workaround compiler bug that generate 8/16 bits inst instead of 32 bits one 
update all struct headers to be more "standardized":

- bit fields are properly wrapped with struct
- bitwidth sum should be 32 within same struct, so that it's correctly padded with reserved bits
- bit field should be uint32_t
- typedef volatile struct xxx{} yyy;: xxx must exists. refer: https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/pull/3199

added helper macros to force peripheral registers being accessed in 32 bitwidth

added a check script into ci

2f811b7975 cmake: sort lists obtained from file(GLOB) 
CMake sorts result of file(GLOB) command since version 3.6.0:
https://gitlab.kitware.com/cmake/cmake/-/commit/edcccde7d

Since ESP-IDF sets cmake_minimum_required version to 3.5, and version
3.5.1 is used in CI, sort file lists obtained from file(GLOB)
manually.

This helps obtain reproducible order of libraries passed to the linker
and to ldgen.

1708febe48 ttfw: fix incorrect length when flush data cache after expect: 
data cache is unicode. while we use bytes in RegEx expect. The index of
matched pattern is calculated with bytes, could be different from

cbf207bfb8 newlib: add C++ guards to the platform-specific dirent.h 
Before newlib 3.3.0, <dirent.h> bundled in newlib did not include any
function declarations. Instead, the file included the platform-
specific <sys/dirent.h>. This inclusion was inside a C++ guard block.
ESP-IDF provided sys/dirent.h inside newlib component, and this file
contained all the necessary function and structure declarations.

Since da418955f5,
common function declarations have been added to <dirent.h> in newlib.
However, the inclusion of sys/dirent.h has been moved out of the C++
guard block. However we didn't notice this change and did not update
sys/dirent.h in ESP-IDF newlib component to and the now-required
C++ guards there.

This commit adds the missing C++ guards to the platform-specific
sys/dirent.h.

The declarations of common dirent.h functions are now present both in
<dirent.h> (provided by newlib) and in sys/dirent.h (provided by IDF).
We keep the declarations in sys/dirent.h for compatibility, since some
ESP-IDF files and applications may include <sys/dirent.h> directly,
rather than <dirent.h>.

969904cba6 unit-test-app: increase timer task size 
FreeRTOS timer tests use quite a lot of stack, close to the limit on
the ESP32. ESP32-S3 has larger coprocessor save area, so there is less
space left for the actual stack, and the tests fail with a stack
overflow. Increase the stack size to make the tests work reliably.

e32831033a [esp_rom]: fixed S3 longjmp patch 
* On S3, the placement of ROM functions is
  ECO-dependent. Hence, we don't jump into
  the middle of the longjmp function in ROM
  on S3 anymore.
  Instead, the whole longjump function is used
  in the patch.

* Also properly excluded the patch from
  bootloader build with Makefiles

31773b8ed2 ttfw: fix DUT check functions are called after case finished: 
DUT check functions are executed in receive thread. If we put data to
data cache before execute the check functions, the main thread could
handle the data cache first and mark test case finished. We will execute
check functions first to make sure it's executed before case finished.

6b75bad2b1 tools: Split up large binaries into smaller chunks in the DFU binary 
ROM will erase the region a partition is in as soon as it receives the
first bit of the data that is in the partition. For large partitions it
takes more than 5 seconds to erase which is a hard-coded limit in
dfu-utils.

This splits large binaries and adds them by chunks which should avoid
timing-out during flashing.

6d2e0c3eae tests: gdb_loadable_elf: adjust the breakpoint location for ESP32 ECO3 
The previous location was the return from the first ets_printf call
that prints ROM sign-on message. Since the main function was patched
in ECO3, the new address no longer works — there is no instruction at
0x40007901 in ECO3 ROM. This could be solved by setting two
breakpoints (one would work for ECO <=2, the other for ECO3), but we
would need to remove the unused breakpoint later.
Fix this by setting the breakpoint at ets_printf. This means that when
debugging a loadable ELF the ROM sign-on message will no longer be
shown, but this doesn't seem to be an issue.

fc22e3c645 [system]: Made longjmp save for context switch 
* Patched longjmp to be context-switch safe
  longjmp modifies the windowbase and windowstart
  registers, which isn't safe if a context switch
  occurs during the modification. After a context
  switch, windowstart and windowbase will be
  different, leading to a wrongly set windowstart
  bit due to longjmp writing it based on the
  windowbase before the context switch. This
  corrupts the registers at the next window
  overflow reaching that wrongly set bit.

  The solution is to disable interrupts during
  this code. It is only 6 instructions long,
  the impact shouldn't be significant.

  The fix is implemented as a wrapper which
  replaces the original first instructions of
  longjmp which are buggy. Then, it jumps back
  to execute the rest of the original longjmp
  function.

  Added a comparably reliable test to the
  test apps.

2552c7ba0f [C++]: wrapper functions around unwind code 
* Replaced all C++ exception related

dd849ffc26 build: (Custom) App version info is now on a dedicated section, independent of the rodata alignment 
It is now possible to have any alignment restriction on rodata in the user
applicaiton. It will not affect the first section which must be aligned
on a 16-byte bound.

By unchecking "Place panic handler code in IRAM" in the menuconfig,
the panic handlers will be placed in flash. Of course, flash cache must

202154ff1c ut: Exclude test_utils component from default_2_c3 config 
Theory is that the large alignments in this test component are triggering linker

4dba80239e ci: Extend timeout for initial gdbstub commands in panic tests 
Theory is that on the runner, in rare cases, gdb may need more than
1 second to load and start responding to commands.

However it's possible these timeouts are due to some other problem
(like gdb failing)

ef6c8e351b ldgen: fix sections info parsing 
Fixes an issure where the first part of an object file name is not
included, due to matching the rule for a section entry previously.

Reduce depedency on matching literal strings in sections which might
change depending on toolchain (ex. matching 'elf32-xtensa-le')

Make sure parsing rule succeeds for the entirety of the sections info
string by adding 'parseAll=True'.

Add test for sections info parsing.

7ab57605cb test: panic: make stack overflow test more robust 
The previous approach was to allocate an array on the stack, and
have the array extend past the stack size. This worked by would
result in SP being moved near the end of the stack. If an interrupt
triggered at that time, interrupt prologue would try to save the
context to the stack, tripping the stack overflow watchpoint.

Replacing this with the approach which doesn't move the SP and simply
writes to decreasing addresses from SP, until stack overflow check
triggers.

de798541dc tools: use riscv32-esp-elf toolchain for ESP32-S2 RISC-V ULP 
riscv32-esp-elf toolchain (used for ESP32-C3) can also be used for
ESP32-S2 RISC-V ULP coprocessor.

This removes the riscv-none-embed-gcc toolchain which was originally
used for the ULP, and updates the docs and CMake files to use
riscv32-esp-elf.

Some flags are cleaned up and workarounds removed from CMake toolchain
file.

8f3a3181e6 tools: decode esp32c3 stack dumps in idf_monitor.py 
This follows a similar approach as UART core dump handling in
idf_monitor. Panic handler message is detected in the output,
collected into a file, and the file is passed to the decoding script.
In this case, the decoding script acts as a tiny GDB server, so we
can ask GDB to perform the backtrace.

There is no ccomp timer on C3, which means our performance tests will start
failing again due to variance caused by cache misses.

This MR adds TEST_PERFORMANCE_CCOMP_ macro that will only fail
performance test if CCOMP timer is supported on the target

a4fab9c67f test: fix some unit test results not uploaded to Jira:

Currently IDF_VERSION_* variables are not available to the component
CMakeLists.txt files at the requirements expansion stage. This makes
it harder to write component CMakeLists files compatible with
different IDF versions.

Include version.cmake from the requirements expansion script, add a
build system test.

Due to eager_exclude, Sphinx jobs cannot use the doc cache (doctrees).

PDF and HTML building are now seperate CI jobs to avoid this issue.
PDF building will only be ran on deploy branches and when started
with build_docs tag to reduce CI load

3b3409fb20 idf.py: Fixed gdb target to exit cleanly when no openocd watch task 
When idf.py gdb starts, it expects openocd was started in the background
and creates a thread to watch for openocd errors. when gdb target exits,
the debug_ext.py aims to cleanup all threads and processes, but fails
with traceback if openocd-watch thread not available, which could happen
if openocd started separately.

00c3e0e8ec codeowners: fix directory patterns 
The previous version used an incorrect /dir1/dir2 pattern to match the
content of dir2. The correct pattern should be /dir1/dir2/ (with the
trailing slash). This commit fixes these patterns.

Regarding codeowners.py:

'git ls-files' can not be used to correctly implement the logic of
CODEOWNERS file patterns, since it doesn't distinguish between
/path/* and /path/. The former pattern in CODEOWNERS file should only
match the files inside /path/, while the latter also matches files in
nested directories.

Because of this, the logic for evaluating patterns is re-implemented,
by converting CODEOWNERS patterns into regular expressions.
Gitlab CODEOWNERS parsing code was used as a reference, in addition to
the approach for converting glob patterns into regular expressions
proposed in https://stackoverflow.com/a/29354254.

  esp_partition* API and is abstracted as a C++
  interface.
* The old nvs encryption is still possible
* changed default unit test app partition table
* Partitions coming from esp_partition API are

  but mbedtls now

ad295037a8 idf.py: Disable CMake --warn-uninitialized option by default 
Can still be enabled by passing --cmake-warn-uninitialized on the command line

Prevents CMake warnings printed by default if IDF_PATH is underneath the CMake
project directory.

The reason for this is that CMake --warn-uninitialized only enables checks
inside the project directory (ie top-level CMakeLists.txt directory and
subdirectories), it doesn't enable for files included from other directories.

(The only way to enable warnings in other directories is to pass
--check-system-dirs and this looks like it's only useful for CMake's own
developers as it prints a lot of warnings from inside CMake otherwise - see
https://gitlab.kitware.com/cmake/cmake/-/issues/19645 )

Plan to follow up with a later commit to clean up most of the warnings (which
aren't problems for CMake execution), but we'll also disable this option by
default to avoid this unexpected triggering of IDF warnings.

5ff9cd495e panic: skip over the first invalid PC in case of InstrFetchProhibited 
InstrFetchProhibited usually occurs because of a jump to an invalid
pointer. In this case, PC in the exception frame is the address of
the jump destination. 'esp_ptr_executable' check in print_backtrace
function recognizes the first frame as invalid, and the backtrace is
interrupted. This prevents the user from finding the location where
the invalid pointer is dereferenced.

Bypass the 'esp_ptr_executable' check if the exception cause is
InstrFetchProhibited. Update the test case to no longer ignore this
issue.
